Anabel Lopez Salinas is from Oaxaca, Mexico. Her focus is economic development and migration between the United States and the Mixteca, the poorest region of Oaxaca and the birthplace of her parents. Since September 2011, Lopez Salinas has worked and volunteered with the Hispanic immigrant community in Oregon, and served as board secretary of the Beaverton Hispanic Center. While working on her dissertation, she has interviewed immigrants and public officials related to the economic, political and social incorporation of immigrants in Oregon, a relatively new destination for Latino immigrants. Because of this, there is a need to understand how to integrate this community both with other immigrant communities as well as mainstream U.S. society.
